In 2010, Cambrian won the Nation-Wide CleanTech Open, and began scaling and commercializing its flagship EcoVolt reactor – the world’s first bio-electrochemically enhanced anaerobic treatment system for combined energy generation and water treatment. Commercializing EcoVolt in the industrial food and beverage market, Cambrian soon moved from a products to a solutions business, developing the blue-cycle reactor for water reuse, flow logic controls, and innovative approaches to modular on-site resource recovery.

In 2015 Cambrian was selected a Global Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum, and an emerging Environmental Business of the Year by the New England Clean Energy Council. In 2017 Cambrian was selected a Global Circular Economy Winner by the World Economic Forum, and Accenture. In 2019 Cambrian acquired Baswood, a leader in fixed film industrial water treatment, integrating the BioViper into its product suite. With the BioViper integrated into our broader solution suites, Cambrian can treat any strength wastewater to energy and Drinking water quality water.

Identifying a gap in the market around the acquisition and value of on-site resource recovery, in 2019 Cambrian launched the Water Energy Purchase Agreement (WEPA) offering. Modeled after the success with Power Purchase Agreements in the renewable energy industries, the WEPA enables companies to purchase onsite water treatment, water reuse, and energy generation as a service – paying by the gallon or kilowatt hour. Working with pioneers in the solar industry, we developed the contract structure and financing arrangement to enable customers with savings on day one without any money down. We launched the broader WEPA offering in 2019.

Today Cambrian operates across the United States, North America, and Asia, providing services across the commercial and industrial markets.
